I had a great time this weekend and was fortunate to stay healthy. Several members of my camp weren't so lucky though. Regardless of whether the cause was rotavirus, norovirus (unlikely because symptoms had no delayed onset), or one of the common bacterial causes, the only way it could have infected the people it did was via the water. Too many people became ill who did not share food, did not participate in the meal plan, and unless there was a massive orgy that I wasn't invited to, did not share intimate contact.

4Q's defence is that they once had their water tested and it passed. Their water may have been contaminated by the overflowing porta potties half way into the festival or at any other time since their water was tested. If anyone racks up any serious medical bills, you have a good chance of forcing 4Q to pay for them. I'm not a fan of excessive litigiousness, but if their negligence is causing dozens of people to fall ill every year, they need to be confronted. At the very least, filing a civil claim will force them to get their water tested again.

Otherwise, the only alternative is to warn people to bring their own water and treat the spigots and coffee dragon area as lake water - boil it or chemically treat it, or don't even think about drinking it. The same goes for any non-cooked food. Forget about eating vegetables at the fractal feast.
